  India celebrated the 15th National Statistics Day on the birth anniversary of  Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis . He is best known for introducing ‘The Mahalanobis Distance,’ a statistical measure used in many software programs today, and for founding the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI). Mahalanobis was instrumental in setting up the National Sample Survey to collect data on socio-economic parameters of the country.
